Moving Checklist

After years of experience, we have learned many things about being prepared for an upcoming move. The most important lesson of them all is TO BE PREPARED. Planning your move is the best thing you can do for yourself and we are here to help. Below you will find a moving checklist that will help you stay organized and most of all, avoid mistakes and unnecessary costs.   • Start by creating a list of all your items. Any that does not fit in a box, bag, or bin.
  • Now estimate how many boxes & bins you will need. (AVG: 10/adult | 5/child)
  • Once your inventory list is ready, research local moving companies.
  • Check their reviews. Remove the ones with poor ratings and reviews.
  • Google Search ``Company Snapshot`` and click the ``SAFER - FMCSA`` link.
  • Enter their DOT #. Confirm their Authority for HHG is ``Active``
  • Confirm they are insured by click ``Licensing & Insurance`` on the Right.
  • Choose the mover you feel is most honest and reliable.
  • Make a note of any precious items that require special care to move.
  • Begin to sell or trash the items you will not be moving with you.
  • Start packing the items you do not use daily such as seasonal items, clothes, etc.
  • Be sure to secure your new home before your move date to receive direct delivery.
  • Be prepared to change utilities & any other bills that require address updates.
  • Start to use up all food in the freezer.
  • By now, most of your items should be packed in boxes or bins.
  • Most of your food supply should be low by now. We can not move food.
  • Your old home should organized with all your items ready to be moved.
  • Call your mover to confirm move date and time. Be sure to update inventory list!
  • Have you secured a new home? If not, do you need storage? Let your mover know!
  • Tomorrow is the big day. Have you confirmed a time with your mover?
  • All your items should be packed or wrapped ready to be moved.
  • Be sure to have all your details worked out such as keys, bills, money, etc...
  • Your mover will expect payment on moving day. Be sure to have it ready for him.
  • Confirm payment method with your mover. Postal Money Order is best.
  • On moving day, if your inventory was accurate estimated price should not change.

  • Be sure to never sign a blank contract. Some movers try that.
  • Your Pickup should have went smoothly and are now awaiting delivery.
  • Follow up with your mover about approximate delivery date.
  • Check all items carefully with in 7 days to file claim.
  • Be sure to have your movers number handy as well as your contract.
  • Movers have 21 days to deliver your items by law. So know your mover...
  • Today your items are being delivered. Be sure to have postal money order for balance.
